Welcome to The Purpose Place

At The Purpose Place, Purpose doesn’t mean having everything figured out. It’s not a goal to chase, it’s something that can gently emerge through reflection, healing, and reconnection with what matters to you. Sometimes that means feeling more stable or resourced. Other times, it’s about reimagining what your life could look like moving forward.

“Place” reflects the heart of my practice: a grounded, trauma-informed, and respectful environment where all parts of your experience are welcome.

Hi, I'm Deborah Lowndes

I’m an integrative psychotherapist, and counsellor with a rich tapestry of life experiences and professional training. I take a holistic, relational, and body-aware approach to psychotherapy, supporting healing through both emotional insight and embodied awareness.

My work is informed by a deep understanding of trauma, rare disease, chronic illness, life transitions, and grief. My practice, The Purpose Place, is a safe and grounded space to explore your story, heal emotional wounds, and reconnect with your inner purpose. I offer a warm, respectful approach that supports you to rediscover your strengths and move toward a more meaningful life.

Who Do I Work With?

Young People Navigating Identity & Interpersonal Relationships

Support for teens and young adults (15–24) who are managing complex trauma, emotional intensity, identity exploration, and relational or developmental challenges. A safe, grounded space to feel seen and supported.

Adults in Life Transitions

For those adjusting to major life changes—career shifts, parenting, retirement, illness, or evolving roles.

Living with Chronic Illness or Rare Disease

Therapeutic support for individuals, family members, and caregivers impacted by chronic health conditions. A space to honour the emotional journey of illness, and to rediscover strength, purpose, and a renewed sense of self.

Grief and Loss

Gentle, respectful support for individuals experiencing loss—including bereavement, estrangement, miscarriage, terminal illness, or ongoing grief from conditions like dementia or caregiving.

Healing Relational & Attachment Wounds

For people working through long-standing emotional pain, difficult relationship dynamics, or early attachment wounds. Explore your story in a relationally safe, compassionate environment.

Feeling Lost, Disconnected, or Emotionally Stuck

Support for those who feel unsure of themselves, emotionally overwhelmed, or trapped in cycles of self-criticism and disconnection. Therapy can help rebuild self-trust, clarity, and inner alignment.

Our Work Together

As an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, I tailor each therapeutic relationship to the unique person in front of me. I draw from a range of evidence-informed approaches, blending them in ways that feel responsive and respectful to your individual story, history, needs, and goals. There is no one-size-fits-all method — therapy should feel like it fits you.

At its heart, therapy is a collaborative relationship. We work together — not from a place of fixing, but from a place of listening, understanding, and gently exploring what matters to you. This might include processing difficult emotions, making sense of past experiences, noticing relational patterns, or simply creating space to slow down and reconnect with yourself.

Core Modalities I Use

Z

Humanistic & Person-Centred Therapy

Grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life, and that, given the right conditions, you have an innate capacity to grow, heal, and make meaningful change. Rather than focusing on what’s “wrong” with you, this approach values your lived experience and personal story.

Z

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Exploring how past experiences, especially early relationships, can shape how you see yourself, relate to others, and respond to the world today.

Z

Emotion Focused Therapy

Helping you become more aware of your emotions and learn to manage them effectively.

Z

Embodied (Somatic) Therapy

A body-based approach that recognises the deep connection between mind and body, helping you process trauma and shift ingrained behavioural patterns.
Z

Attachment-Based Therapy

Understanding how early caregiving relationships impact your current sense of safety, closeness, and emotional connection.

Deborah offers such a warm, calming presence. Her therapy space is beautiful and comforting — it immediately puts you at ease. I’m really looking forward to the journey ahead.

Deborah is incredibly easy to talk to. I felt truly heard and supported, and I’m looking forward to continuing our work together.

Working with Deborah has been such a grounding experience. Her thoughtful, compassionate approach makes it easy to open up and explore things at your own pace. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking meaningful, empathetic support.
