Questions & answers

A few things people ask before starting.

1What happens in a typical session?

Each session is a space for you to speak freely, reflect, and explore whatever feels most important. There's no pressure to have it all figured out, this is your time, and I'll support you at your own pace.

2How long will I need to be in therapy?

There's no set timeframe, it depends on your needs, goals, and what feels right for you. We'll check in regularly to reflect on your progress and needs.

3Do I need to talk about my past?

Only if and when you feel ready. We might explore the past if it helps make sense of what's happening now, but always in a way that feels safe and grounded.

4Is what I share confidential?

Yes. What's discussed stays private, with the standard legal and ethical exceptions around safety, which I'll explain clearly in your first session.

5Do you work with people under 18?

Yes. I work with young people from 14. For clients under 18, I'll usually involve a parent or guardian in the initial conversation and consent process, and we'll talk together about what stays private between us and what doesn't, so everyone is clear from the start.

6Are Medicare rebates available?

No, Medicare rebates aren't available for sessions with The Purpose Place, as rebates are limited to specific registered provider types under a Mental Health Care Plan. It's worth checking with your private health fund, as some offer rebates for counselling or psychotherapy.
